Spring League Play Starts With More Rain Than Goals
Unfortunately for most teams the first weekend for Spring play was spent at home. Rainy conditions and soggy fields led to most fields being closed for safety purposes. As a result, the Virginia Soccer League will have their hands full rescheduling the almost 100 games that were canceled. However, we did have 3 teams play with the U12 Hotspurs losing a close match to Rush Academy, the U13 Diamonds playing a double header and defeating the Va. Rush Swoosh team in both games 3 to 0 and the U14 Strikers defeating Churchland by a score of 4 to 1. Congratulations to these teams on a great start to the season!
NOTE: When rain outs occur the league will notify the teams when the game is rescheduled you can check your teams schedule at
www.VSLI.org.

U13 Diamonds and U14 Strikers Prepare for State Championship Tournament
The road to winning a Virginia State Championship is never easy. Each year about 30 teams enter the Virginia Youth Soccer Association's single elimination tournament for U12-U18 teams with one goal - to be crowned Virginia State Champions! This year the U13 Diamonds and the U14 Strikers will be put through the test in this highly competitive soccer tournament experience. The U13 Diamonds will play the ODS Crunch on Saturday, April 12 for a chance to advance to the round of 16 where they will likely face the number 2 team in the State of Virginia, the CYA Wildcats. The U14 Strikers will begin play against the Prince William Sound Courage 93 and if they advance they will likely face last year's State Champions, the McClean Olympic. When asked about the State Cup tournament, our Director of Coaching, Al Cousineau had this to say. "To win a State Championship in Virginia it usually takes 5 perfect games in a row, a lot of luck and even more desire and skill. As teams advance the games get harder and teams have to be prepared to do everything it takes to win because many games come down to one goal...overall it is a great experience for our players and as a club we support our team's participation, win or lose."
